Fine Motor Skills are the skills used when you move your hand to do an activity. They involve the small muscles of the hand, and are necessary for performing many tasks in life. A lot of activities help in the development of fine motor skills, including weight bearing on the hands, postural control and shoulder stability, and muscle development. There are also many components of fine motor skills, some of which are, development of the arches of the hands, the thumb and its webspace, separation of the 2 sides of the hand which helps with in-hand manipulation, bilateral integration, and the development of hand and finger strength.

Creating art may boost young children's ability to analyze and problem-solve in myriad ways, according to Mary Ann F. Kohl, author of Primary Art: It's the Process, Not the Product. As kids manipulate a paintbrush, their fine motor skills improve. By counting pieces and colors, they learn the basics of math. When children experiment with materials, they dabble in science. Most important perhaps, when kids feel good while they are creating, art helps boost self-confidence. And children who feel able to experiment and to make mistakes feel free to invent new ways of thinking, which extends well beyond the craft room.

Steps:

1. Start by drawing an egg shape with a black marker on a piece of paper

2. Ask your child to grab each pom pom with a clothespin and dip them in paint

3. Have the kid press them on the paper making patterns with the colors
